Analyze Poker Hands to Improve Your Poker Skills

Most of poker players want to improve their poker skills, as more skills lead to more winnings. But the question is: How one can do this? Basically, players who want improve their poker skills must analyze their poker hands and find out where they may be going wrong. In live poker, it is  difficult to do so; as players have to rely purely on their memory and plenty of hands may pass before they have time to sit down and analyze their poker hands. However, in online poker, players have the facility of software programs that can track all poker hands for them, successfully and while providing complete stats about them.

What are Poker Statistics?

Poker statistics are just a technique of tracking your poker hands and measure how you are likely to behave at the poker table. Poker tracking software tools are helpful in saving and compiling this information about your opponents, as it can provide you the information that you can use against them. But it is also useful for compiling information about yourself.

The more you learn about your tendencies in your game play, it is easier for you to find tendencies that could be harmful for you rather than profiting you. It is about helping your real game to your potential poker strategy.

Example of Helpful Poker Statistics:

You may observe that you are a loser over your last 10 sessions and don not know the reason. You may suppose that you are a tight-aggressive player and should be winning consistently.

However when you observe your statistics over those sessions you may find that your VP$IP percentage (willingly puts money in pot) is 65 %, while your pre and post flop aggression numbers (ratio of raises-opens to calls) are below 1percent. While in the game it may feel like you are folding all and that you attack opponents often, but considering the hands you have played in the cold light of analysis, you may find that just the opposite was correct.

Why You Must Analyze Your Poker Hands?

Sorry to say, but people are hardly ever completely honest about themselves, even to themselves. Human behavior is to feature good things to own skill and bad things to hit and miss bad luck. This truth can be death at the poker table and is the major reason why skilled poker players always find amateurs to snatch money from.  This tendency can change the impression of your game approach as well, which is where statistical analysis can help. By reading the hands that you have played, you will know things about yourself and your game. And thus your winning campaign begins.
